Ruby Creek Tavern is the host to numerous Fund Raising Benefits throughout the year.
Among these is the Disabled Veterans Deer Hunt in late September. Owner Jerry Welcome was responsible for getting a special law passed that would allow Disabled Vets to hunt during the youth hunt in September. (Senate Bill 633)This project is supported solely by donations from individuals and businesses. The Vets are provided transportation from and back to the Veterans Home in Grand Rapids. They are also supplied with meals, hunting gear, guns and guides. Several years ago we had a quadriplegic that was set up with a rifle rest that he could aim with his chin, and fire the rifle by blowing into a straw. Guess what? He was one of the Vets that got a deer that year!
Ruby Creek Tavern is also home to The Ruby Creek Care Fund that provides help to needy persons in the area, in case of a fire, illness or other need.
Jerry is also a strong supporter of The Ruby Creek Conservation and Recreation Club. The Club is dedicated to preserving our natural resources and educating the public on conservation.
